Studio Toad participates in RE-Culture III with two interrelated artworks, a site-specific installation and a performance on the opening day.
Both with the starting point in the ongoing and increased issue of immigration and movement of people across borders.
In relation to the theme RISK our first idea was to address the risk to the environment as a result of excessive production and over-consumption of resources like water, products, plastic and transportation. However, when we looked further into the history and present state of Patras we also wanted to incorporate the risk of immigration.
Patras in Greece is the first point of contact in Europe for many refugee migrants fleeing their country. Their journey is dangerous and often deadly. The logistics of dealing with this is costly and demanding and has placed both Greece and the entire European Union in a precarious situation.
Our aim with the two artworks is to focus on the plight of immigration and those crossing the watery boarder and the ongoing politics of resolving this issue.
